Questions and Answers

The building unlocks at 7:30 am each morning. All 6th grade students go to the cafeteria to wait for the 8:05 bell. From the cafeteria you go to your locker to drop off your backpack and get your belongings for 1st hour! 

At 8:10 am the warning bell sounds letting students know that they have five more minutes to get to class. At 8:15 teachers close their doors and start the day! 

Transition is difficult and different for each student. Some have no problems while other struggle with the new responsibilities. Your success is up to you. When you need help, ask for it. If you see a student struggling with his new environment, reach out to them and lend support. A caring community is what we are all about!

Backpacks go in your locker! They are not to be carried around in the halls or taken into the classrooms for safety reasons. You are allowed to use string bags as long as they fit safely under your desk. (because of tripping hazzards, this option is in review for next year)
This is where organization skills come in to play! Organize your books and binders by hour so you can grab what you need quickly. 

No worries! If you can’t open your lock, don’t panic! Take a breath and try again calmly. Ask a friend or look for an adult to help you! You’ve got this! Teachers understand your struggles when you come here and will help you. All you have to do is ask!

Basically, passing time is when students are allowed to be in the halls between classes. You have four minutes to go to your locker, go to the bathroom if needed and head to your next class!! Four minutes doesn’t seem like a lot of time but as you get used to your daily routine, you will find that it is!

For the first couple of days you are given a little bit of a break in order for teachers to help you get adjusted to the new routine. Our policy states that all students must be in their next class by the bell each hour or you will be marked tardy.

In your elementary school there are fewer students and you are assigned to one classroom. When you move to Middle school, you are assigned to six classrooms all over the building. Each teacher has over 100 students each day. Your ID is important to help staff learn who you are and where you are suppose to be. 

ID’s are also crucial for buying lunch in the cafeteria. It speeds up the buying process and helps keep track of your account. There is nothing worse than being hungry and behind a student who does not have their ID! 

ID’s are also important in the Media Center to check out books. It speeds up the process of checking out a book and also helps keep your accounts in order! Carry your ID at all times!

The Media Center is open daily in the morning, at REC time and after school on some days. Check the schedule in front of the Media Center for Daily information.

Students are allowed in the Media Center during regular school hours with a pass from their teacher. Many students come to the Media Center to print, check out books or use the Makerspace.  All are welcome here!!!

Lunch for sixth graders begins at 12:11 each day. That translates to after 4th hour! Students are excused from 4th hour to go to the cafeteria. Once there, you get in line to buy lunch. If you packed a lunch you can go directly to your table to start eating. Snacks are available anytime during lunch by going to the snack bar also in the cafeteria.

You will be dismissed by table from the cafeteria when lunch is over and travel to the gym or the outdoor area by the gym.

Some students like to go to the media center to study or read. Make sure to check the schedule at the entrance of the media center before you go to REC.

After Lunch and REC you are off to C3! 

C3 stands for Creating a Caring Community! This time is used to collaborate on community projects, catch up on current events and take time to express yourself. Being part of a community is very important. At Berkshire we do our best to help out our community!

Head to the buses after your 6th hour class at 3:14 pm when the final bell rings.

Fear not! Remember they were in your shoes two short years ago. They know how it feels to be a six grader in a new environment! 
They may be bigger than you and may even look intimidating, but we are all Wildcats and want to help each other out!

You are required to put your phone away during the school day, from 8:15 am until 3:14 pm.

This year 6th grade students will be recieving Chromebooks instead of laptops. They will be distributed during the first week of school.
