Clubs & Activities

At Berkshire Middle School, we provide a wide range of clubs that cater to the varied interests of our student body.

Love horses? Rider? Want to learn? Learn about horse care, tacking, behavior, breeds, discipline, etc. There will be a Field trip in the spring where we will ride horses. Be a part of an annual fundraiser, watch horse related movies, and create horse related art!

Girls in STEM

BPS Girls in STEM events give girls additional fun and exciting STEM experiences outside of the school day. Middle school girls can join these events whenever it fits their schedule. No prior experience is needed. Below are some of the wonderful events that have taken place over the last few years.

Berkshire Pride Alliance 7/8

The Berkshire Pride Alliance seeks to create greater awareness about the issues and unique experiences faced by the LGBTQ+ community and allies of this community. We provide a safe and welcoming space for any student who wants to talk about issues related to sexual orientation or gender identity and expression. Everyone is welcome to come, regardless of identity. Wednesdays during 7/8 lunch & recess.

Honors Orchestra

Honors Orchestra is an advanced voluntary ensemble that meet outside of the school day. The goal is to give talented and hard-working enrolled orchestra students, grades 6-8, the additional opportunity to perform challenging literature together. Honors Orchestra will perform on both the Winter and Spring Orchestra Concerts. All minutes spent in Honors Orchestra rehearsals will count towards practice logs. Tuesdays from 7-7:50 am in room 123.

D.Solve Club

The goal of this club it to inspire creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking among students as they tackle real-world challenges using the Design Thinking process. Through hands-on projects, brainstorming sessions, and team-based activities, members will learn the design thinking process, define problems, ideate innovative solutions, prototype their ideas and test them in scenarios.

Green / Garden Clubs

At Green Club, our focus is on initiatives that promote environmental sustainability within our school and community. We actively engage in projects aimed at utilizing upcycled materials, launching campaigns such as the food cart, and supporting recycling efforts within the school. Additionally, we prioritize educating ourselves on environmental issues and strive to meet all the criteria necessary to be recognized as a Green School. Thursdays after school until 4:15 pm in room 116. Gardeners will help Mrs. Lucken plant our garden in the spring and harvest in the fall! Improv Club (6th Grade only)

If you have watched “Whose Line is it Anyway?” then you’re familiar with improv acting. It is acting anyone can do. You don’t have to be an actor or be funny to join. It is a great chance to meet friends and have fun.

Pick up a registration form in the office. Club is limited to 10 students.

Lego Club

STEAM/Coders Club

The mission of this club is to ignite the excitement or science, technology, engineering, arts and math! We will explore exciting projects that blend art and technology, experiment with coding languages, and collaborate on innovative challenges. Members will engage in hands-on activities that build teamwork, critical thinking, and creativity. Beginners-Advanced Students are welcomed to join.

Robotics

Robotics is open to any Berkshire student. No prior experience is required.

Use this google form to sign up. Sign ups are open starting in May and end on the last day of school.

Berkshire Robotics Team Application for Incoming 6th, 7th, & 8th graders

Applications are DUE by June 6. Team selection or wait-list notifications will be sent out the August 31st. Is Robotics for me? FTC is an excellent program for anyone. No experience with coding, computer science, or engineering is required to participate and be successful in this club. All you need is the ability to problem-solve and learn new skills! Birmingham Connection FTC will help prepare your scholar for engineering tech classes at Seaholm and Groves High School. Our program has a direct connection to the combined high school team “Automation Nation.” Interested students will go into high school with prior experience where they can build on those skills even further. What is FTC? It’s way more than building robots. FIRST Tech Challenge teams (10+ members, grades 6-12) are challenged to design, build, program, and operate robots to compete in a head-to-head challenge in an alliance format. Participants call it “the hardest fun you’ll ever have!” Guided by adult Coaches and Mentors, students.
